Let's just ignore that small, insignificant detail and discuss more pressing details, shall we.
Okay all jokes aside, I knew it had been awhile since I'd been home but I didn't realize it had been this long.
My bad.
But I've been away for all the right reasons. Like holiday season and eating lots and lots of holiday foods. Important things, you know. I also got a part-time and then that turned into full-time, big girl corporate job so I've been busy. And when I'm not working I'm actively making wish lists of things to buy off Amazon and working on my next scripts. See? Important things.
My latest work in progress was supposed to have been done by now but I had an idea to stage a coup as part of the storyline and then a bunch of jackasses decided to actually stage a coup on the Capitol and all the sudden my little script was much too damn literally on the nose. So I had to trash it and start all the way over. But the newest draft I'm working on is much more promising. I can tell you this: it's set in 1864 New Orleans and my main character, a woman, is serially killing off women's husbands. It's divine.
A big thing I had to remember while working on this is, I don't do well trying to do uptight dialogue. I need the funny. I need the dark humor. Before I was trying to write very prim and proper given the time period and it SUUUUUCCCKKKEEEDDDDDD. I'm not even kidding. It took me forever to get through 13 pages and I was bored writing those drafts to be frank. But allowing myself to have fun and let the characters have this wickedly warped sense of humor has made the writing process so much more enjoyable. With any luck, I'll be done with it before the month is out.
Keep your fingers crossed for me.
