A short update.
I've been incredibly fortunate during this pandemic to be able to write, meet new people virtually and take full advantage of the kindness that working writers taking time out to meet with emerging writers like myself.
Writers hop on Twitter all the time dropping a lot of great advice for writing and navigating the business and life as a working writer in Hollywood, but the pandemic really opened the door to have conversations and readings with writers that wouldn't be possible otherwise because of production schedules.
Of course I wrote ran through that door. Full speed.
Now the motto "stay(ing) ready so you never have to get ready" definitely applies here and I was so thankful I had a few scripts ready to submit for consideration for writing programs and virtual coffees. Let me just say how thankful I am to have been able to meet such great people who have provided me with such thoughtful feedback and advice and the opportunities to connect and grow my network keep coming. I feel like I've gotten so far ahead with my career in the last 6 months and I'm so excited about it. Now on the flip side to that, I'm also thinking ahead to next year's writing programs and am having the stupidest issue in trying to figure out what show to spec and what my next original script will me. If it was to me, I would spec P-Valley but I have a strong feeling it won't make the cut of accepted shows (boooo!!!) and although people like to write specs just for fun and practice, I prefer to write a spec with the intention of applying for a fellowship. So I'm just trying to decide on what to spec and a new original so I can be 50% done with the applications when the time comes.
Stay safe. Wear a mask. And if you have any recommendations on a show to spec, please drop me line :o)
