Lessons Learned as a YouTube Sensation

Pivoting on an idea for something better is one thing writers have to accept and be good at. Because when you're not and you don't let an initial idea go to make way for something that can (and probably will) make your story better, you're cheating yourself and your story. Pivoting and not being precious about your ideas are two of the most important things to make friends as a writer and guess what? It also applies to YouTube channels.

This is my story. *insert Law & Order dun dun sound here*
So 2020 was the year I decided to put myself out there more. You know, showcase my talents and whatnot because people can't know you're talented if you don't tell or show them. And as someone who is actively working to break in as a Hollywood writer, I need people to know I exist.

So in walks my brilliant idea to start a YouTube channel. To my credit, I decided to create my channel pre-Corona. I had such grand plans, y'all.  Had I known America would be so selfish and idiotic to not want to wear masks and quarantine properly to stop the spread of the virus, I would've put it off a few months. But I didn't. And I'm glad I didn't because I took a leap of faith and learned.

I figured I would speak about screenwriting because I'm a writer and duh, you want to speak on things you know at least something about when starting out. And it was cool. I learned a ton about what it takes to actually make a video and being comfortable on camera and I have so, so much more respect for those who YouTube. There's also needing to have good makeup (I actually bought new makeup specifically for this and found that I pop better on screen with a red lip and black eyeliner. Bold, yet simple is my bag. My Taurus moon says so.), good natural lighting, a pleasant looking background and more importantly how to script your video and sound intelligent. There's really nothing like plotting out your talking points and getting in front of the camera and not have any of it come out correctly. It's a constant battle of "am I saying this correctly?" "will people understand what I'm saying?" and a bunch more other things but whatever. You think you can knock it all out in about an hour or so but there you are 5 hours later trying to make sure you cover and explain every point.

And then there's editing.

LOL.
LOL.
LOL.

That's all I got on that.

However, once I got the hang of it and really structured my videos in a way that made it easier to edit, the editing process wasn't so bad. Did I mention how I much I popped with a red lip and black eyeliner?

So anyway, I'll be continuing my videos on screenwriting 'cause mama ain't raise no punk but I'm also considering other content topics because while screenwriting is fun, it's not all I want to talk about. I want to have other conversations about things I like so we'll see how it goes.

But while you're here, please be sure to subscribe to my channel (link over the right in the sidebar) so I really can become a YouTube sensation.
